Sports Training and Recreation Center

Sports Training and Recreation Center

Communities surrounding the Kroc Center have an acute lack of recreational facilities. The Kroc Center’s Sports Training and Recreation Center will introduce a wealth of opportunities beyond comparison with any other community center in Chicago.

The size, layout and adaptability of the sports complex will allow several activities to take place at once. The bleachers can be moved to accommodate a spectator event, while practices take place in other parts of the gymnasium.

The Center will offer sports that are not available at the local high school, like swimming, golf and gymnastics. Coaches and volunteers in team sports leagues will help young people appreciate the values of discipline, teamwork and fairness. For some, it will bring opportunities for college scholarships.

The Kroc Center has been designed to enable as many different sports as possible to take place even in off-season winter months, so that if a young person has an interest in baseball, golf or tennis, they won’t have to abandon these activities in the winter only to play catch-up in the spring. They will be positioned to compete with athletes from warmer climates. After all, in Chicago, it’s during the winter months that young people are most likely to be idle, bored and most in need of constructive indoor activities as an alternative to television and video games.
