South Side Center Provides Safe Haven For Students
CBS 2 came out to Higgins Community Academy to shoot a feature on the work The Salvation Army Ray and Joan Kroc Corps Community Center is doing in the West Pullman Community in light of the recent violence at Fenger High School.
CBS Anchor/Reporter Suzanne Le Mignot spent more than two hours interviewing Salvation Army personnel, including Major David Harvey and Vincent Johnson, Principal of Higgins Community Academy Dr. Mable Alfred, several kids involved in Salvation Army programming and a Salvation Army volunteer who is a recent graduate of Fenger. CBS was also able capture a wide representation of Salvation Army Kroc Center programs, including band, percussion and the Sunbeams character building program. They also drove out to 199th and Loomis to capture the site of the future Kroc Center.
